This 1984 stamp celebrates the early end of slavery in the Amazonas state. The state ended slavery in 1884 in Brazil.

Brazil was the last country in the West to end slavery—May 13, 1888.

But if you go to Brazil on May 13, don't expect any national events or corporate campaigns "celebrating" May 13. Allow me to explain why.
